La Reserva Golf Club in Sotogrande, Southern Spain, is the region’s newest golf course, opening in 2003 and designed by American golf architect and designer Cabell Robinson. Etched into the hillside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, La Reserva Club offers golfers a contemporary layout with all the luxuries of Southern Spain. A fantastic golf academy program with an extraordinary traditional-Spanish designed clubhouse. A visit to Sotogrande in Southern Spain must include a stop at La Reserva Golf Club because it has been voted within Spain’s Top 10 Golf Courses. The golf course features on our Southern Iberian Experience. Golfers can travel to Gibraltar or Malaga and enjoy a week-long trip that includes La Reserva Club, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, Real Club Valderrama and Finca Cortesin.
Etched into the side of a hill, La Reserva Club’s par 72 Championship golf course features various elevation changes throughout. With distant views over the Mediterranean Sea and nearby onsite villas, La Reserva’s golf course has wide, sweeping fairways that lead onto large greens with subtle and challenging undulations. The bunkers on the course are large and blend well with the immaculately clean fairways, whilst the native Spanish trees offer better scenery than challenges. Bodies of water add to the hazards found amongst the elevation changes and green undulations, but it also adds to the grandeur of the golf course.
The challenge that La Reserva brings to golfers of all abilities is a testament to Cabell B. Robinson’s innovative contemporary design techniques and influences of his old mentor Robert Trent Jones Senior. The elevation changes, green undulations and bunker placement make for an exhilarating round for the low handicappers, but the average golfer can have just as much fun because the fairways are generous, the cuts of grass lining the fairways and greens are not too dangerous, and the course has numerous sets of tees to choose from. The playability of La Reserva Golf Club is astonishing and automatically cements its place in the Sotogrande golf region.
The golf clubhouse at La Reserva Club in Sotogrande was built in 2003 and designed to incorporate architecture heavily influenced by local Andalusian and historic Moorish tendencies such as internal courtyards, vaulted beamed ceilings and arched windows. Apart from its stunning architecture, the clubhouse has a fully-stocked golf Pro Shop equipped with the latest golf attire, accessories and equipment. It also has a restaurant named L’Olive which is open plan with contemporary furniture and cuisine. It serves Andalusian cuisine with a contemporary European twist with locally sourced ingredients that takes centre stage on the menu.
The Golf Club boasts outstanding practice facilities for golfers. It has a former Ryder Cup star Manual Piñero Golf Academy, as well as a driving range, putting green and short game area and practice nets. It is a great place to get a lesson at the practice academy before putting your new-found golf skills into action on the world-class La Reserva Club golf course, before relaxing at the clubhouse restaurant L’Olive.
