Our Top Picks

Hawaii & US Mainland

Our top picks & specialties in the country that has the most golf courses in the world.

Hawaii is a haven for golf; a true paradise that tops our list. World-class service and five islands full of amazing golf. Will it be Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Lanai, or the Big Island? Either hop on the Pride of America for an inter-island cruise or pick two to three islands and we’ll take care of the rest.

Best time of year to visit Hawaii: September – March when there is the least rain & highest temperatures.

From coast to coast, the options are endless. Enjoy Arizona’s Scottsdale, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Pinehurst, Whistling Straits, the Carolinas, and all the way up to New York & Boston.

Best time of year to visit USA: Golf can be played year-round in the US.

A visit to the Golden State is a worthy choice. Whether it’s Torrey Pines & San Diego in the south, or the Monterey Peninsula and Pebble Beach in the center, California is brimming with world-class golf courses. One may consider the San Francisco Bay and Napa Valley area for wine aficionados.

Best time of year to visit California: Year-round (California is a big state!)

With over 130 golf courses within 45-minutes’ drive, any golfer keen on visiting LA’s backyard shouldn’t look further than the Palm Springs area. Our recommendation: Stay in Palm Desert (best resorts & food). A trip over to Las Vegas wouldn’t go astray with quality courses like Paiute, Wolf Creek and Sand Hollow towards Salt Lake City.

Best time of year to visit: Year-round. It is best to avoid peak summer months in the desert states so don’t travel July/August because it gets too hot.

From Victoria Island to Edmonton, Canada is brimming full of world-class golf courses. We stick to the ones you can actually play & luckily, there are hundreds of worthy takers. Leafy, relaxed and beautiful; getting lost in BC on your way to Calgary or Edmonton is the right place to do it. Play on Vicotoria Island at Crown Isle, or in Kelowna at Predator Ridge. Whistler has four must-play courses, and need we recommend Fairmont Jasper or Fairmont Banff Springs Resort? Other courses to consider in Southern Alberta are Grey Wolf, Silver Tip, Kannanaskis and Stewart Creek.

Best time of year to visit Canada: Summer months – June to September are the best months to visit.

Heavyweights such as Bandon Dunes take centre stage in Oregon, but there is cracking golf in this leafy state. Look no further than Portland’s Pumpkin Ridge. Our favorite destination in Oregon is Bend, an inland oasis full of micro-breweries and world-class golf courses. Bend enjoys 300 sunny days a year so the weather will be mostly fine! The perfect vacation is a triangle with Portland, Bend and Bandon Dunes comprising the perfect trio.

Best  time of year to visit Oregon: Summer months (June – September)

Though not part of the United States, anyone travelling from Australia or New Zealand should look to stop over in Fiji for a few days. It is often a cheaper route and there are two must-play golf courses near Denarau which is the main resort area located on Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island. If you have a little longer, there are some outer islands that are a must-visit; one even has its own high-end golf course.

Non-Golfers - Hot Tips

If taking non-golfers on your trip, make sure you consider these tips.

Stay in accessible places
If self-driving or playing golf in a hard-to-reach location, ensure your accommodation or golf course is accessible. Non-golfing partners and friends will need to be able to take the car while you're playing golf or get a transfer to enjoy the local amenities so plan ahead and ensure the region you're at is not too far from anything.
Ensure there is something to do for everyone
Stay at destinations best suited to everyone's interests. Whether it's cities with entertainment, shopping and good restaurants, or seaside locations with spas, beaches or villages with plenty of hiking or wineries. While you're playing golf, ensure the non-golfers are taken care of or that might be the last trip you go on!
Don't Play Golf Every Day
If visiting Portugal's Algarve, it makes all the difference to spend a day at the Beach, exploring Lagos or strolling the streets of Lisbon with your non-golfing partners & friends.
