Vietnam Country Club – Trevino Course, Saigon
Set amongst 300 acres of land just 17km from Saigon’s city centre, Vietnam Golf & Country Club is the nation’s first 36-hole golf facility with two 18-hole courses. We’re playing the East Course, designed by famous American Lee Trevino. Thew championship East Course plays through woodlands and it favours a natural layout. It has more generous fairways than its sister the East Course but it also features 110 well-placed bunkers and undulating greens, so you must place your fairway shot accurately for an easy two-putt. Maintained as a private club, the off-course facilities are welcoming and the food is fantastic.
Hoiana Shores Golf Club, Danang
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, the Hoiana Shores Golf Club is Danang’s newest golf course, opening for play in 2020. Its flagsticks feature lantern designs as the course is near the UNESCO World Heritage town Hoi An, known as the ’city of lanterns.’ The course itself is a links design, with the entire complex comprised of pure sand. The fairways spring up haphazardly and there are plenty of different ways to approach the greens so keep your mind open. Hoiana Shores has been awarded as one of Vietnam’s best new golf courses so we’re very excited to play this new course.
Ba Na Hills Danang
Designed by Luke Donald, the par-72 Ba Na Hills Golf Club is 15km west of Danang, set in the foothills of Bana Hills. The course is laid out in several valleys, amidst crisscrossing rivers and dense jungle. Various holes has elevation changes and command views over the surrounding land. It is relatively long by golf course standards at 7,858 yards from the tips (7.2km); it definitely favours the bigger hitters. It opened in 2016 and has since been rated one of Asia’s best golf courses. Managed by IMG to championship quality, Ba Na Hills is unique in several ways. One is the bunkering with long grass around the edges and face of each hazard, and its greens are angled away from fairways and only slightly undulated. It is the sort of course that allows you to use every club in your bag with a variety of shots available.
BRG Danang Golf Resort
Designed by the shark Greg Norman, the BRG Da Nang Golf Course opened in 2010, immediately recognised as one of the 15 best new courses in the world by USA GOLF Magazine, and Asia’s best course in 2011, 2012 and 2013 by Asian Golf Monthly. Designed as a links course, the fairways are generous and there is no out of bounds which is either a blessing or a curse depending on how wayward your shots are. Sculpted bunkers, ill shaped greens and natural topography combine for a great test of golf beside the Pacific
Ocean.
Laguna Lang Co, Danang
Designed Sir Nick Faldo, the Laguna Lang Co Resort’s golf course is one of the most intriguing courses on our itinerary. Wedged between the ocean and a ring of mountains which creates a natural amphitheatre that houses this immaculately kept golf course. The terrain varies dramatically from sea views to forested tracks that meander through rice paddies. The wind can come into play but only on the holes where you can see the ocean; there are more forested holes than not. Watch out for the unnaturally large bunkers and lightning fast greens: this is a world-class golf course!
BRG Kings Island Resort – Kings Course, Hanoi
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the BRG Danang Kings Course opened for play in 2018 and is one of three 18-hole golf courses at the sprawling golf facility. It is situated on 250 hectares of land an 1,500 hectares of waterfront. With wide, generous fairways, its challenges come in the form of bunkers and water. It is the best golf choice for club golfers. With a resort-style layout, the Kings Course is extremely fun but not too challenging like the other courses at BRG Hanoi. At over 7,000 yards, the course is quite long so don’t be caught laying up!
Hilltop Valley Golf Club, Hanoi
This is the longest drive we have to and from a golf course, but we promise, it’s worth it. Designed and managed by IMG, the Hilltop Valley Golf Course opened in 2019 with two contrasting nines. The front nine plays along a river at the bottom of a valley, with water coming into play frequently. The back nine required a steep ascent to the hilltop where the course features commanding views over the land so take a camera! Severe elevation changes and a golf course butting out of dense jungle make Hilltop Valley appear as a golfers paradise in heaven. There is a great mix of challenging holes but they are playable for all types of golfers so don’t be perturbed; we’re here to have fun.
Skylake Resort & Golf Club, Hanoi
Established in 2012, the 36-hole Skylake Golf Club is one of Asia’s best facilities. We’re playing the Sky Course which is surrounded by natural Vietnamese jungle and it features dramatic landscapes throughout. The Lake Course is more severe and favoured by pros, whereas the Sky Course can be played by everyone whilst offering a fair challenge throughout. Don’t be fooled by the generous fairways; elevated greens with turtle-back contours challenge incoming shots and dense surrounding jungle will steal your golf ball. To finish our golf tour in style, the Skylake Resort & Golf Club is the pick of the bunch; we’ll let you make up your own mind!
The Renaissance Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Directly overlooking the Saigon River, the 5-star Renaissance Hotel has been welcoming guests for decades and it has developed a reputation as Ho Chi Minh City’s premier meeting place for travellers with luxurious rooms and various restaurants inhouse. It has been refurbished to showcase its luxury brand name and the rooms are adorned with plush bedding & modern amenities. Either head out for some local delicacies or eat in house with four restaurants that showcase either Vietnamese, International or Chinese cuisines. Local attractions consist of the Opera House, Ben Thanh Market, Nguyen Hue Walking Street and the National History Museum.
Pullman Resort in Danang
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the 5-star Pullman Resort (owned by Accor), is, in our opinion, Danang’s best Resort. It features spacious rooms with lots of natural light and luxurious amenities including a world-class spa, multiple pools, exquisite food and plenty of space to unwind in peace. This Resort personifies a luxurious break from the bustles of cities and modern life, in resplendent charm. All rooms feature private balconies or gardens. Occupying one of the best seaside spots in Danang, the Pullman Resort combines leisure, luxury and food in a brilliant show of splendour.
Sofitel Legends Metropole in Hanoi
More recently renowned as the meeting place for President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, the Sofitel Legends Metropole is widely regarded as Hanoi’s most prestigious hotel. Its opulence and old-world charm blends charismatically with the Sofitel’s globally recognised brand as a bastion of luxury. Ever the stalwart, The Sofitel Metropole is one of Hanoi’s oldest hotels which has served as the country’s meeting place and will serve our purposes beautifully.
