About

Lakewood Golf Club opened in 1944 and has since seen a remarkable amount of golf action. President Gerald Ford, Bob Hope and many famous players have graced the course with their presence. Perry Maxwell designed both 18-hole courses at Lakewood in the 1940s though today it is a member of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Both courses are Championship par-72 resort-style parkland layouts and feature beautiful 200-year-old oaks, 10 large water features and lush fairways. Point Clear’s Lakewood Golf Club has seen tornadoes, stars and pros; you can feel the history in the grass. Lakewood at The Grand is one of the golf courses within the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Other courses include Capitol Hill, Silver Lakes and Grand National. We recommend renting a vehicle and driving through Alabama and Georgia to best experience the Golf Trail.

Golf Course Information

Dogwood

The Dogwood Course at Lakewood measures 7,063 Yards / 6,458 Metres from the tips, but it has five sets of tees from which to choose from, so it is accessible to golfers of every ability. The course winds in and around natural marshland and a pleasant mixture of pines, magnolias and ancient Southern American oaks. A pleasant blend of fairway trees, water features and green-side bunkers create challenges for all golfers and the greens run true, which is a testament to the maintenance crew. Bermuda fairways combine with TifEagle putting surfaces on both courses to give you the best golfing experience possible.

Azalea

Lakewood’s par-72 Championship course gets its name from the beautiful azalea bushes that lines many of the fairways, which consist of rolling undulations that create a very pleasant round of golf. Manicured greens and distinguished cuts of grass around bunkers create a resort-style atmosphere on the Azalea course that is on par with the great Arnold Palmer courses in Florida. Water features on seven of the eighteen holes, whilst southern oaks and mature trees fill every unused patch of fairway on the golf course. A journey into the deep south is what you will find on Lakewood’s Azalea course, and a bigger challenge than the Dogwood awaits.

Venue Information

The Lakewood Golf Club has the full suite of facilities including a driving range and putting green, rental golf equipment and lessons, plus a beautiful clubhouse with golf shop and restaurant. A full beverage-cart awaits playing golfers on the course which is fully stocked year-round. Other facilities include bag storage, club cleaning services and repair, and locker rooms for all golfers. The golf shop comes fully stocked with the latest equipment and brands including Titleist, Footyjoy, Peter Millar, Donald Ross, Callaway, Under Armour and Levelwear.
