About

Located in central Otago in New Zealand’s South Island, Cromwell Golf Club is a links golf course well over 100 years old. The golf course lies in the centre of the town of Cromwell, which is itself surrounded by orchards and vineyards. The Golf Club is also adjacent to Lake Dunstan and the junction of the Clutha and Kawarau Rivers, making the golf course a place of outstanding natural beauty and one of the highest-rated golf courses in New Zealand. It is best to combine Cromwell golf course with a package that includes The Hills, Arrowtown Golf Club, Jack’s Point or Millbrook Resort.

Situated just 50-minutes from Queenstown International Airport, the Cromwell Golf Club is located in the centre of New Zealand’s stone fruit growing industry and the fastest-growing winy region in the country. It is a great destination to combine wine with golf as the region is known for Central Otago Pinot Noir from Bannockburn, Bendigo and Lowburn. There are plenty of options to combine Cromwell with wine tastings within a Queenstown golf trip.

Golf Course Information

With over five tee locations on the course, with the black tees measuring 6,462 metres and the reds measuring 4,468 metres, there is accessibility for every calibre of golfer. The Cromwell Golf Course is the current host of the New Zealand Open final qualifier, so its championship quality is prevalent. The land incorporates a unique links-style despite being 200kms from the ocean, while its geography creates a micro-climate that is semi-arid with mostly clear skies year-round. Summer sees high temperatures with low humidity and winter sees play throughout with frosty mornings and sunny days.

The course itself is experienced as a laid-back links of 18-holes, not dissimilar to local Scottish links courses with treeless mountains surrounding many Highland golf courses. The underlying turf is sandy but firm, with fairways rolling unto greens surrounded by uneven rough and unkempt bunker ridges. During summer the fairways and greens are lightning-fast, with bump-and-runs preferred at all times. Cromwell Golf Course’s greens have been refurbished in recent times with the new improvements featuring undulations, numerous tiers and hollows.
