About

One of Ireland’s most southerly golf courses, Old Head Links is one of the country’s best-known golf destinations. With onsite accommodation, fantastic services and facilities, the golf complex delivers a memorable experience for all visiting golfers. Old Head is unrivalled in terms of location: sitting on a narrow peninsula, the golf club is so remote that it has only a lighthouse sharing the stretch of land. The peninsula juts out from the mainland, and the golf course incorporates the narrow stretch into its 18-hole route.

The world-class golf destination lies south-west of the southern city of Cork, in County Cork, near Kinsale. The drive takes less than an hour direct, and the destination marks the last golf stop along The Wild Atlantic Way. We recommend visiting Old Head at the start or end of your Wild Atlantic Way golf trip. Be sure to include Dooks Golf Club, Waterville Links and Castlemartyr Resort when you visit Old Head.

Golf Course Information

The Old Head links golf course was designed by American Ron Kirby, who also designed Dromoland Castle, Castlemartyr and the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course. The Atlantic Ocean surrounds old Head Golf Club on three sides. The peninsula that it resides upon literally juts out from the mainland without any neighbouring land. The course opened for play in 1997 and is relatively new by Irish golf terms. A round of golf at Old Head Links will be one of the most exhilarating rounds of golf you will experience in the Republic of Ireland. The region has a complex history that extends right through to the second world war.

The Old Head Links course sits within Ireland’s Top 50 Golf Courses. The course sits on a promontory that has a series of caves carved into the rocks below your feet as you play. Challenges come in the face of fierce winds, exposed holes and tight approach shots with the Atlantic Ocean coming into play on various holes, including the 18th. There are six tee boxes to choose from which makes Old Head playable for golfers of every calibre. The must-play golf course near Kinsale in County Cork is one of the most dramatic golf courses in Europe and should be on your bucket list. We recommend playing the golf course twice to really get a feel for the place, as you will be pinching yourself when you arrive and play your first round at Old Head Links.

The golf practice facilities at Old Head Links are fantastic with a warm-up range. There is also a putting green maintained to the same standards as the golf course and a short-game practice area. The practise area is a fantastic place where visitors and guests to the suites can enjoy unrivalled tuition with a view.

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse at Old Head Links provides a comfortable space with great views. Inside there is a restaurant and bar, golf shop, changing facilities and an outdoor area to enjoy post-round drinks and the terrace. The dining at Old Head is almost as world-class as the golf. The De Courcey Restaurant features magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and Lighthouse while featuring a menu of fresh seafood, fine prime meat cuts and an extensive wine list. The Lusitania Bar is where you can enjoy breakfast, brunch or early evening food in an informal environment; it offers a vast range of ales, craft beers and lagers, alongside a great selection of champagnes, and a variety of international spirits.
