About

If you are on a golfing break in Kerry, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to play Dooks – a truly magical location for a stunning golf course. Experience breathtaking views and a unique links challenge that golfers have enjoyed since 1889.  Golf has been played in Dooks since 1889 which makes the course one of the oldest Golf Links in Ireland.  For 100 years the links remained a steadfastly quirky, 9 holes monument to those early days as the members resisted all efforts at modernisation. Other golf attractions around County Kerry and County Cork include Tralee Golf Club, Castlemartyr Resort, Ballybunion and Old Head Links.

It was extended to eighteen holes in the 1970s under the guidance of Eddie Hackett. The course was further enhanced in 2002 by Martin Hawtree. The Club is renowned for its friendliness and invites all visitors to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Clubhouse.  Even though it was extensively remodelled great care was taken to ensure it retained its old-world charm.  The warmth of the greeting you will receive at Dooks is unrivalled.

Golf Course Information

Environmentally, Dooks prides itself on the pristine surroundings in which the course is set. The flora, fauna and location on a promontory south of Dingle Bay sets the scene for some of the most beautiful golf in the world. For the golfer who is seeking a beautiful and tranquil environment to enjoy great Golf, Dooks presents a convincing case. Dooks is not as exposed as some Irish courses and features an amazing variety of gorse, heather and wildflowers,  the “gentle” wind is never far away, and the narrow genuine sandy fairways and well-contoured greens offer you a real taste of traditional links golf at its very best. The Dooks golf course is similar in landscape and layout to Dingle Golf Links, the most westerly course in Europe, not far from Dooks.

As usual on traditional links courses, the front nine comprises of some tightly laid holes where accuracy is paramount. Although it lacks the towering bunkers of Ballybunion and Tralee, Dooks does require a hefty amount of imagination when attacking the green, for tight fairways often lead to small greens, or undulations that make you wish you’d taken more club from the tee. Dooks, although featuring a traditional links layout, digresses from the layout and style of most of its Irish and Scottish counterparts and the result is the creation of a stunning golf course in the remote Irish countryside. This uniqueness also applies to the backdrop. Locals say the surrounding mountains, including the McGillycuddy Reeks and the Slieve Mish, never look the same way twice, with different colours and shades almost every day. The same can be said about Dooks, where hollows and bumps between the dunes have been providing a singular Irish golf experience for more than a century.
