About

Bandon Dunes Golf Resorts’ Pacific Dunes course is one of its oldest 18-hole tracks. Designed by Tom Doak, the links golf course opened in 2001 and has been drawing eyes in the golf world ever since. Every course at Bandon Dunes emulates the Great Scottish Links Courses, with a touch of Oregon’s charm and Bandon’s mystery. The Pacific Trails Course borders the Pacific Ocean and feels every knot of wind as well as sea mist and fierce undulations. Nearby golf courses include the Sheep Ranch, Old Macdonald, Bandon Trails and Bandon Preserve.

Golf Course Information

Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2001, Pacific Dunes is remarkably different in character and shot making requirements than the other courses. Pacific Dunes doesn’t feel like it was built as much as it was discovered. Rippling fairways remain just as they were found, and natural bunkers line the landscape as they have for centuries. The course emerges from shore pines to spectacular 60-foot sand dunes. When the wind blows, precise approach shots are a necessity. Pacific Dunes is short enough to give you hope but rugged enough to test every facet of your game.

Pacific Dunes is rated the highest of Bandon Dunes due to its intriguing routing system of par-3’s along the back nine, right on the coast. There is no evidence that the holes have been designed and shaped at Pacific Dunes, they seem to simply emerge from wild, scrubby bush with each dune making excessive undulations. The dunes themselves though, which comprise most of the golf course, were shifted by Tom Doak and his team to make the wild, hilly façade appear more naturalistic, and it worked! The wind always plays the deciding role at Bandon, especially at Pacific Dunes where accuracy is tested on even the mildest days. The result of his efforts is a riveting round of golf that has rightfully earned its place in the world’s great golf courses.

Venue Information

The Punchbowl

The newest addition to the Bandon Dunes family, The Punchbowl is a 100,000-square-foot putting course designed by Tom Doak, with Jim Urbina. No tee-times are required, all you need to do is show up and put your golf ball in the queue; it is open by 14.00 & closes at dusk, night use is prohibited. It s also complimentary for resort guests. It features 18 holes’ lengths differ from day to day, some are short, and some are long. The area is a collection of natural hollows. Punchbowl is a longstanding design concept by golf architects. The 18th hole at Old Macdonald shares the same principles and is aptly named “Punchbowl.”
