    Golf Course Information

The 18-hole championship golf course at Formby Hall Resort & Spa was designed by Alex Higgins. The golf course offers some respite from its ‘links’ neighbours on Englands’ golf coast. The course features a parkland style with plenty of water hazards and trees. Those playing the nearby links courses at Royal Birkdale, Lytham & St Annes or Royal Liverpool will find respite from the classics at Formby Hall, where the holes are set within a tree-lined perimeter within 200 acres. The course extends to more than 7000 yards from the tips, which is 6,473 metres total. The golf course offers up to four tees, allowing golfers of all abilities to tee it up with friendlier distances.

While seen as more forgiving than its Golf Coast neighbours, Formby Hall Championship course is not without its challenges. Alex Higgins designed it so that it offers a playable surface year-round, draining well in the winter months. The greenkeepers at Formby Hall Resort keep the rough tightly mown, though they can be quite tricky around the greens. Links-style pot bunkers, wooded areas and various water hazards offer an eclectic mix of shot-making opportunities not found elsewhere on England’s golf coast. Formby Hall Golf Resort has hosted the European Seniors, Challenge Tour and Euro-Pro Tours, with a great many stars having graced its presence.

The 9-hole Woodhey Dunes Course offers golfers 1,395-yards from the White Tees, which equates to 1,275 metres.  Differing from the 18-hole course significantly, the Woodhey Dunes Course captures the true challenges of links golf with strategically placed riveted pot bunks and large, fast undulating greens. Add to these challenges various water hazards and the seaside breeze and you have a stern test of golf amid a short course.
