Central to their history and still true to this day is the fact that all seven courses at St Andrews Links are public and Open to everyone. Situated in the Kingdom of Fife, St Andrews Links itself is, apart from being regarded as The Home of Golf, also lies close to other famous courses, such as Kingsbarns Links, Crail Golfing Society and The North Berwick Links. Golf Course Information

The Old Course is the Home of Golf, where the game was first played 600 years ago. To play down the 18th fairway of this iconic course is to walk in the footsteps of golfing legends from every generation. The Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognised across the globe, yet the greatest feature of the Old Course is that despite its grand status, it remains a public course. The course originally consisted of 22 holes, but Tom Morris reduced it to 18. From the moment you arrive at the first tee in the shadows of the majestic Royal and Ancient Clubhouse, you can’t help but feel a very special sense of occasion, anxiety and excitement.

The sense of exhilaration never dissipates as you walk in the footsteps of hundreds of years’ worth of golfing greats. And you’ll experience a multitude of famous features along the way, like the enormous Hell bunker, the Road Hole – site of so many famous Open Championship moments. Strategic options are endless on the Old. The fairways are hundreds of yards wide in places and many of the double greens are over 25,000 square feet. That combination leads to a huge variety of angles and pin placements that, in combination with the wind, means no two rounds are ever alike. When you only see the course once, you miss out on those options and personalities of the course. The Old Course features on our St Andrews Golf Package.

The traditional way to play on the Old Course is to enter your name in a daily ballot. To enter the ballot, there must be at least two players and all names, home clubs and handicaps to be admitted. As the Old Course is closed on Sundays, there is no Friday ballot. Contact us with your interest to play this course and we’ll enter you in the ballot.
