About

Set on Scotland’s north-east coast, the Nairn Golf Club overlooks the Moray Firth. The Golf Club lies just 30-minutes’ by car from the Highland Capital Inverness. Nearby golf courses include Castle Stuart Golf Links, and Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club, across the Firth. Every hole on the golf course overlooks the water and reflects the traditional Scottish design of its creators. The Club has a history extending back to 1887, with its course designers consisting of Archie Simpson, Old Tom Morris, James Braid, Ben Sayers and C.K Cotton. The Club features an 18-hole Championship Links Course as well as a 9-hole Cameron golf course. The Club is no stranger to large tournaments, having hosted the 1999 Walker Cup, the 2021 Curtis Cup; and many Scottish Amateur Championships. Nairns’ Championship Links is rated as the 11th Best Golf Course in the UK in 2015 by Golf World Magazine. The course offers one of Scotland’s very best traditional seaside links golf experiences.

Golf Course Information

From the first tee at Nairn’s Championship Links, water is all around you. The first seven holes play with the waters on the Moray Firth on the right of you the entire time. The course plays over relatively flat terrain and is easy to walk. Each of its 18 holes runs over quirky, undulating terrain the features many humps, bumps and hollows that leads to complex greens with subtle tricks. As with many Scottish and English golf courses, gorse is a hazard, and you will want to bring spare golf balls as a contingency if yours find the brittle bushes.

As with all traditional Scottish links golf courses: beware the wind. Nairn Golf Club is subject to frequent westerlies that dramatically alter the pace and style of play on the Championship Links. Beware also the pot bunkers that interlace the fierce undulations in the topography. Nairn’s Championship Links favours golfers with excellent short-game capabilities; with bump-and-runs often more effective than long irons. A round at Nairn reinforces the realisation that you are in the Scottish Highlands, playing Scotland’s oldest game, in one of Scotland’s oldest golf clubs; the reverence for Nairn in the international golfing community is absolute.
