About

Barassie, located on the outskirts of Troon on Scotland’s South West Coast, has twenty-seven holes with which to test the golfer, complemented by first-rate facilities in the clubhouse. Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club offers everything golfers would expect from a Scottish seaside golf course, challenging fairways and greens as well as a friendly, welcoming membership. The Club, which has an extensive history, has been offering golfers a magnificent links golf challenge in Ayrshire since the 1800s. Within striking distance of Royal Troon, Dundonald and Turnberry, the course is an Open Championship Final Qualifying venue with a well-deserved reputation for some of the best maintained greens in Scotland. The club has produced a number of fine players since its inception, most notably Jim Milligan, Gordon Sherry and Jack McDonald who all played in winning Walker Cup Teams.

Golf Course Information

Barassie Links is the Championship layout at Barassie presenting a challenge for even the best golfer. The course offers a mix of the old and the new. Nine holes from the original course and a new nine built in 1997. Four sets of tees – Red, Yellow, White and Blue – offer a graduated challenge taking the course length off the back tees to more than 7000 yards. Visitor enjoyment will be maximised with some knowledge of the course and we would strongly recommend that you purchase a copy of the Pro Guide from the pro shop before your round.

Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club benefits from having 27 holes in play at any one time and this allows the course to be laid out in three different eighteen-hole configurations. Theodore Moon originally designed the course, and it started out in life as a full 18-hole layout. Recently, the club added nine new holes. These new holes, and nine from the original layout, now form the Barassie course, which is used for Open Championship Final Qualifying. The spare 9-hole course is now called the Hillhouse.

Confused? Well there’s only one thing for it, you’ll need to play all 27 holes and you can do this in a number of ways. Barassie Links (18 holes) The normal course in play for members and visitors is known as Barassie Links and comprises of nine holes from the Traditional Course and nine holes constructed in the nineties. Traditional Course (18 holes.) The Traditional Course is shorter than Barassie Links but still provides a formidable challenge when in play. Dundonald Course (18 holes) The Dundonald Course is used less frequently than the other two layouts and uses the alternate nine holes from the traditional layout and the nine new holes; also, shorter than Barassie Links but still a fine test of golf.
