About

One of Scotland’s oldest golf clubs, Panmure resides on Scotland’s South-East coast. Golf has been played on the site since the end of the 15th century, and it hosted the first Scottish Professional Championship in 1907. Just under 90-minutes from Edinburgh International Airport, 20-minutes from Dundee and 40-minutes from St Andrews, the Panmure Golf Club is in the centre of Scotland’s golf scene, just minutes from the Open-rota Carnoustie Championship Links. Panmure Golf Course is an authentic Scottish Links route with a long history of hosting championship tournaments. From its beginning in 1845 as a club, Panmure has evolved into a resounding force in Scottish golf and a fantastic addition to any golf holiday to the area. The Golf Club is a reciprocal member with Melbourne’s Yarra Yarra Golf Club.

Golf Course Information

The 18-hole route at Panmure is laid out over mostly flat terrain with fairway and green undulations throughout. There are 83 bunkers on the golf course, with 81 of them spread across 15 holes; it would be pot-luck to avoid all of them. The links layout is an Open-qualifying course with the latest regional open qualifiers held there from 2016 to 2019. Ben Hogan famously spent two weeks before his Open Championship win practising at Panmure in 1953 where he went on to win at Carnoustie by four strokes.

The greens play hard and lightning-fast, and the undulations that dot the course provide difficult lies. The course begins without glamour with a standard set of opening holes, but the excitement steadily builds. The sixth hole is one to remember with a 414-yard par-four, featuring a plateaued green and fairway that constricts after a partially blind tee shot. A strategy is required through most of the course, especially around the middle stretch. The Panmure golf course is a relatively unknown gem that lives in the shadow of Carnoustie. Getting a tee-time at Panmure is not as stressful as St Andrews or Carnoustie, and the price reflects it too. Golfers can expect a championship quality links golf course without starting delays or crowded clubhouses. We recommend adding Panmure to your Scottish golf holiday along with Carnoustie Golf Links and Blairgowrie golf course, located not far from Barry, Carnoustie.
