    Resort Dining

The Northland region that Kauri Cliffs inhabits possesses the freshest ingredients that the lodge uses for its delectable cuisine. Fun to eat, well-balanced and above all, easy to understand, Chef Frith draws inspiration from a wide base of international cuisines as he prepares the menu daily at Kauri Cliffs, ensuring that each dining experience is different than the last. With an emphasis on local produce and providers, Frith and his brigade of chefs maintain relatively low food miles with fish often caught and cooked on the same day. Guests can choose from a variety of dining spaces, including the Main Dining Room, Tiger Room, Green Room and Verandas, with private dining arranged upon request.

“We champion local growers and seasonal fresh produce.” Chef Frith.

    Sea Kayaking

Discover the coastal flora and fauna that makes this one of the most scenic regions in the world as you paddle and learn about the tribal and European settlement of the region. If you’re lucky you might even have the chance to encounter dolphins or spot little blue penguins/ kororā during your voyage. Refuel at the unpopulated Little Waiaua Bay with a gourmet picnic lunch and wines to match, then continue your paddle on the Pacific Ocean or dive under and discover the marine life by snorkelling the sheltered kelp reefs.

    Fishing

Fishing around the Bay of Islands is almost religious. A local guide can join you at one of the beaches on the property and test your skill at hooking a snapper or Kahawai (similar to a blue fish). You may then bring it up to the lodge where the head chef will prepare it for your dinner, which characterises the freshness of Kauri Cliffs cuisine.

    Surfing

Surf some of New Zealand’s most beautiful untouched scenery including Kauri Cliffs. It is as though nature designed the Northland coastline with surfers in mind. Tiny coves, long sandy beaches, river mouths, point breaks, sandbars and reefs; all within a short drive. Enjoy a two-hour beginner’s lesson at Kauri Cliffs or an all-day Surf-safari of Northland beaches.

    Guided Heritage Discovery

Journey through time as your experienced guide unravels the rich and diverse tapestry of history and culture that all took place at the vast property. From the resting place of one the indigenous Maori’s original seven migratory waka to the arrival of Captain James Cook at Waiaua Bay, the birth of the first New Zealand European child and the generations of the pioneer families that followed, the Kauri Cliffs property has laid witness to it all.
