Accommodation

Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links

Within 20-minutes of Dublin city is Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links, idyllically tucked away on one of Ireland’s most stunning stretches of uninterrupted coastline. Family home to the Jameson (whiskey) dynasty, the luxurious hotel houses an award-winning spa and two award-winning restaurants. It is quiet, indulgent, serene and enthralling all at the same time. When it’s time for your round, walk to the practice facilities for a warm-up and then to the first-tee, located right near the Hotel. Portmarnock serves many purposes: from its proximity to Dublin that enables day trips, to its quiet seaside location with untouched white sand, but most importantly, the Bernhard Langer-designed golf course, which is a must-do experience when in Dublin.

Slieve Donard Resort & Spa

One of the most famous golf hotels is the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa, which stands wedged between the quaint town of Newcastle, the fantastic beach of the Irish Sea, and the world’s best golf course, Royal County Down. The hotel spires are visible at many points on the golf course at Royal County Down, most notably so on the closing holes coming back to the clubhouse. The fantastic old-world building looks like something from a Disney movie set, but the 5-star service and attention to detail throughout the hotel will make you feel like a celebrity during your stay. A world-class spa, indoor swimming pool and numerous restaurants all complete the Slieve Donard experience. You can also walk to the Royal County Down Golf Course from the hotel.

Golf Information

Portmarnock Links

Designed by golfing great Bernhard Langer, the Links at Portmarnock Hotel is set on an idyllic coastal stretch overlooking The Irish Sea. Making full use of the natural terrain and sand dunes, Langer has designed a truly wonderful course with a number of elevated tees and greens, blind approaches and doglegs. Sea-breezes are often present at Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links, with gently undulating fairways creating an exhilarating experience for all; it comes a highly recommended golf course by those who have played it.

Royal County Down

Consistently voted the world’s best golf course, Royal County Down links characterises Irish links golf. Adjacent to the Irish Sea, the course’s fairways are narrow ribbons that thread their way through a massive conglomeration of sand dunes and dense gorse. Trees are vacant on the golf course, it is mainly purple and golden gorse which are beautiful to look at but punishing for those who end up in there. The greens undulate subtly so that your approach shots from fairways to greens are of the most importance for accuracy. A few blind shots from tees over sand dunes and tight fairways add to the thrill, and the looming Mourne Mountain Range and Slieve Donard Resort Spires are magnificent in their own right. It comes rated as the best in the world for a very good reason; you should not pass up the opportunity to play Royal County Down, especially when tee-times are guaranteed in this particular event.

Ardglass Links

Set idyllically on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Irish Sea, Ardglass links is a golf course to remember. The Clubhouse is over 400 years old and was at certain stages throughout its history, used as a smuggler’s den by those using Ardglass village as a port. The town of Ardglass today is a quaint fishing village that backs onto the other side of the clubhouse, so the course serves as a central location. You will struggle to find a more scenic course, with dark blue ocean waters breaking on dark rock outcrops along the golf course, and the green grass contrasts magnificently with the ocean. Shaped by the ancient shoreline, the golf course has many memorable holes and par-3’s that you will remember for a long time. The service at Ardglass deserves world recognition for friendliness, attentiveness and effectiveness.

Warrenpoint Golf Course

A fantastic parkland layout in Northern Ireland, Warrenpoint Golf Club is over 100 years old, being established in 1893. The par-71 layout meanders through heavily wooded areas with sharp doglegs and a large lake creating havoc for all. The greens are the biggest challenge, however, with the weather permitting how fast they are. Your accuracy will be tested at Warrenpoint due to the large amount of trees on the course, and no two holes are the same.
