    The Frégate Golf Course

Undoubtedly, Ronald Fream has signed one of his most beautiful achievements in Le Frégate Provence! Before experiencing this fabulous golf experience for yourself, we suggest you discover the layout of each of the 18 holes of the “Frégate” course. Golf enthusiasts in Provence will appreciate the incomparable beauty of the 18-hole golf course, considered one of the most beautiful courses in Europe, with 15 breathtaking viewing points of the Mediterranean Sea. Set against the backdrop of the Mediterranean Sea, amid Bandol AOC vineyards, pine trees, rock gardens and more, the par 71 course features a varied and balanced route at the heart of Provence green landscape. It’s one of the most appreciated golf courses in France, coming in at 6,084 metres.

    Hole 1

To the right of the tees are the remnants of a well, which supplied the orchard in the valley below Frégalon.

    Hole 2

Soon there will be a vineyard on the left of the hole. Beautiful flowers can be observed in front of the remains of a “Hunter’s Lookout” stone cottage.

    Hole 3

The golf course’s special features are the elevated areas, made by a quarry from which the blocks were extracted. If one looks well, one can see a stalactite merging with a stalagmite (long work from the flow of an old fault). The shore at the bottom of the golf course is pierced by underwater grottos. Some form rooms made up of stalactites. The Gosquer de Cassis cavern is not there. Massifs of fossilized corals and fossilized nautiluses are visible, remains of the period when Provence was at the equator.

    Hole 4

At the close of the drive, the hill protrudes up to the middle of the existing fairway, making it difficult to prevent the balls from escaping to the left.

    Hole 5

At hole 5, the ducks will be your friends—especially if you give them some bread!

    Hole 7

Hole 7 offers a beautiful view of Les Embiez, an island belonging to Paul Ricard. It was the first dry port built.

    Hole 10
Hole 10 is the must-play hole of the course because it offers a truly remarkable view! The trail links the Calanque de Port d’Alon to the Port de la Madrague. 1½ hours of walking under the pines lying by the Mistral overlooking some beautiful, pristine calanques. In bad weather, the Alon cuttlefish, at 60 centimetres below the surface, are exposed by the breaking surf at 300 meters from the edge. Under the 10th green, beyond the railway line, the “La Galère” cove and its rock, also called “the submarine”, is at more than 12 meters in height, the base of the diving school of Abbot Simon. More to the right at the level of a small cliff, a perpendicular wall with its gully-like summit made it possible to load boats with lime from the lime kilns, of which there are still ruins.

    Hole 11

Some convicts from Toulon would have built the dry stones walls which would have served as sheep pens. The cultivation of the juniper, everlasting, narcissus and asparagus was extensive in the zone. On the level of the green, one can see Bendor, another island set up by Paul Ricard.

    Hole 15

On the left-hand side, there are some original plants that resemble carnivorous plants. Their identities remain unknown to us.

    Hole 17

On the hill to the right, one can find clay pigeons, remnants of the old ball-trap which preceded the golf course.

    Hole 18

On sunny days, it is common to see the Royal Flag Fins. With some luck, you will have the chance to see majestic pheasants, some outgoing chickens, and the ballet of the squirrels. In the evening, the seagulls and the rabbits appropriate the fairways and greens as their own home.

    Frégalon Course

This 9-hole course is a real quality course, accessible to non-green card holders. The Bunkers were completely renovated in 2019 and the course has outstanding views of the Mediterranean. At Par-29, and 1,700-metres, the course is designed for beginners and an exceptional alternative which offers every golfer easy access to the game.

    Accommodation

Spread over two typically Provençal buildings, the hotel’s rooms and suites all face a bright terrace with a view of the golf course and/or the Mediterranean Sea and its paradisiacal islands… A spacious accommodation, which offers all the comfort of a 4-star hotel in the heart of the vineyards of Provence, on the heights of Bandol.
