The Sunningdale Golf Club has had a legendary status for well over a half century. Both the Old Course, designed by Willie Park Junior, and the New Course, designed by Harry Colt, have been renowned for their innovate inland designs and the championship level by which they reside. The Sunningdale Golf Club has enjoyed renown on its Old Course especially, having hosted many major tournaments over the years, and those fortunate enough to visit will know they are playing the same courses where legends have made their mark. The golf club sits just 20-minutes’ drive away from Heathrow Airport, and just 30-miles from London city centre; it is one of the most accessible elite golf courses in the United Kingdom.
Sunningdale’s Old Course was designed by Willie Park Junior in 1901, over a mixture of hills, heath and woodland. His course was considered revolutionary, not just because over the strange terrain he planned to lay it over, but because it was considered extremely long for the time. Within a few years Harry Colt, the club secretary, modified several holes and drastically altered the others. The Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club is considered one of the best inland courses in the United Kingdom and is regularly found in “Top 100 “lists.
The Old Course at Sunningdale is lined with innumerable pine, birch and oak trees, which is what gives the Club its emblem. Its aesthetics through old woodlands and colourful heathland make Sunningdale Old Course a crowd-pleaser for every tournament that’s played there for spectators both physically there and those watching on TV. The course itself is world-class in every way; its layout, combined with immaculate conditions year-round despite the often-gloomy weather, and the timeless history of the design in 1901 stands the test of time and is Willie Park Junior & Harry Colt’s greatest achievement together.
The Pro Shop at Sunningdale Golf Club is well stocked with major golf brands and Sunningdale-branded attires. There is a full range of outer-wear, shoes, golf equipment and golf accessories.
